Resources
Tools for the work.
A growing library... reading, practices, and references that shaped this framework. Start anywhere. Come back often.
Foundational reading
- On meaning & suffering - accounts of finding purpose under the hardest conditions, and what they show us about acceptance.
- On agency & self-direction - the writing on taking full responsibility for your own change.
- On the mind & meditation - practical and traditional texts on attention, stillness, and the part of you that watches.
Specific titles and links coming soon.
Practices to begin with
- The honest assessment - a structured look at where you actually are across the five pillars.
- Ten minutes of stillness - the simplest meditation there is. Sit, breathe, watch what arises, come back.
- Naming the feeling - separating an emotion from an opinion, as a daily practice. "I feel sad," not "I feel you neglected me."
Companion practice
- Heart of Santosha - the meditation and acceptance side of this work, more Buddhist in its roots. Where Build Your Own Human holds agency and acceptance together for an active life, Heart of Santosha sits closer to stillness and contentment. Retreats, private sessions, and online courses, run with my wife Kira on Koh Phangan.
The best resource is the next repetition.
